E-Books
A big part of this site is sharing lessons I have learnt along the way. Here you will find a series of e-books which provide programs or insights that coaches and athletes may find useful. Below you will find a link to each book, a brief description and a page of what’s inside.
To access some, all I ask for is that you enter your email so that I can keep you updated with BASC developments. Others require a donation to a nominated charity.
Training for a Back Row Forward - The Training Programs of David Pocock
David Pocock represented the Western Force from 2006 until 2012. I was fortunate to work with David during this time, assisting his strength and power development. With his support, this book contains over 40 programs from which his training was developed.
Full proceeds from the sale of this book are donated to the charity of David’s choosing. Proceeds from sales support the Rangelands Restoration Trust and the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.
Weight training CIRCUITS
A collection of over 20 circuits used with professional rugby union players. Circuits designed to be spontaneous and challenging in small and large group situations. A mixture of light and heavy resistance. These programs can be used as they appear for well-trained athletes or they can be modified with suggestions on each circuit. These circuits may be used directly by coaches or players, can provide ideas, and cold form the base for additional variations of your choosing.
Phd Program
The book contains the programs used during my PhD study investigating the effect of bilateral (squat) or unilateral (step-up) training on strength, speed and change of direction. The program may provide coaches with insight into possible loading strategies using the squat or step-up. The booklet also contains a brief rationale of the training program, the purpose, the experimental design and program constraints and an article summarising the study findings with practical implications for coaches and athletes. You can read more detail about the studies here.
Tips for Post-Graduate Sport Science Students
Not the typical S&C program guide, but one that as a coach-researcher, I feel strongly about. I wrote a post in April regarding my experiences during my PhD studies and their similarities to working with teams. I received favorable response from the post and decided to expand the tips to this brief e-book for students contemplating or undertaking post-graduate research. The book contains 15 tips either from my experience or wisdom passed on to me by supervisors, colleagues and friends during the journey. I would strongly encourage this for students undertaking applied sport science research.
